Promoting Justice through Education
Dr. Tammy Oberg De La Garza is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Dual Language Teacher Leadership MA program at Roosevelt University. She has offered practical, professional development and literacy coaching in classrooms for nearly 20 years.
Dr. Oberg De La Garza's research with Latinos and literacy has underscored the need to help teachers provide culturally relevant instruction in ways that support the identity of multicultural and multilingual students.
Her book Salsa Dancing in Gym Shoes (2015), book chapter on Culturally Responsive Literacy for ELLs (2015), and recent publications in the Journal of Latinos in Education (2014), promote her work and establish her as a leader in academic social justice for Latino students.
